Meet the CrossFit Coaches


The San Diego Athletics team is made up of the most dedicated and experienced group of coaches and trainers in the Pacific Beach area. We’re constantly striving to provide the most progressive version of fitness as our chosen sport and methodology naturally evolves. We do this by constantly learning, working on our coaching technique, and keeping the needs of our members on the forefront. Meet the team.

  • Bryan Boorstein

    Owner, Head Coach

    “I love the conversations before and after class. Sometimes it’s as simple as talking about [the client’s] life and learning about them as a person — but I really love watching their evolution from “client” to “athlete.”

    Bryan was obsessed with basketball from the time he was 6 years old. He made All-Conference in basketball his junior and senior years in high school and played varsity for 3 years. He was offered an opportunity to play at a couple small schools but opted to attend James Madison University with Anders Varner, where he played club and rec league sports.

    Bryan started weight training at 15 years old to compete with the older guys on Varsity the varsity team. His passion for weight training slowly emerged and overtook basketball in college. When he and Anders decided to open CrossFit PB in 2010, he knew this was his calling. In January 2011, they finally were able to quit their day jobs and make this fitness thing their lives.

    Now, his true passion lies in watching their athletes improve. He truly loves that moment when he finds the perfect cue to get an athlete to move better.

  • Jenny DeVeaux


    “I am passionate about coaching people to do things they never thought they could, getting entire families involved in fitness, and building a gym where even the smallest accomplishments are celebrated by the gym as a whole even by people who just met.”

    Jenny came across CrossFit in 2005 while in college for kinesiology with the intent of going into physical therapy. In her last year of school, she worked in a PT clinic and this solidified her belief that the traditional thoughts of health, fitness, and rehabilitation were outdated. She just couldn’t get behind utilizing a leg press machine instead of a squat, or knee extensions and leg curls instead of deadlifts and so on. So she became a personal trainer, and then a CrossFit coach. She coached CrossFit for many years as a personal trainer and was brought to San Diego Athletics by Anders and Bryan. She is proud to be a full-time CrossFit Coach and that this is her career, not just a side job.

  • Matthew Angeloni

    Matt comes to us from Tennessee, where he played wide receiver at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Matthew was introduced to CrossFit by a friend in 2012 when he finished his football career and was searching for other ways to compete. He spent the next eight years specializing in sports performance and athletic development, working with athletes in sports performance facilities as well as collegiate weight rooms.

    After graduating with his degree in exercise science, he obtained a specialized certification in training for speed and explosiveness. Furthermore, he is almost done with his master’s degree in Human Performance and Injury Prevention.

    Matthew and his wife Jen relocated all the way across the country to live in a more active culture. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors doing something active. Most of his free time is currently spent studying for his master’s degree, but when he is not reading something for class, he usually has his head in a fitness or nutrition book. Matthew believes he has found his true calling and he is excited to share his passion for fitness and nutrition with everyone at SDA.

  • Jenn Ryan


    “It is my goal to help every member/client to have a positive self-image and be proud of the work he/she has put into becoming a healthier version of themselves”

    Jenn played sports all her life and continued to train and work out in some capacity after high school. She has been doing CrossFit since 2009, but in moving from the east coast to San Diego in 2013, Jenn took the opportunity to help others as a nurse and a CrossFit coach. Jenn specializes in nutrition programming, still loves watching WWE, and firmly believes Scotty Pippen was the best athlete on the Chicago Bulls.
