2015 CrossFit Games Registration
The CrossFit Games season is upon us. If you have never done the Open before, here is the general gist. For the past four years, CrossFit has hosted an online competition that is accessible to everyone. You do not need to be the greatest in the world to be a part of it. All you need to do is register, show up to the gym, and have fun doing some competitive burpees.
The worldwide numbers for this competition have been incredible and over 200k people signed up to be part of the event in 2014. Every week, one workout is released, and the entire fitness world does it. Once you are done, you enter your score, and then stare at your ranking for the next 4 days wondering if you should do the workout again to try and better your score.
Every year, we have registered well over 100 athletes, qualified multiple people to the regional (top 60 athletes in the region), and placed a team in the top 10. We love this time of the year, not because of the regional athletes, teams, or competition, but because the vibe in the gym changes, become slightly more serious, and everyone pushes a little harder. It really makes for some of the most fun Saturdays watching people give it their all with crowds of 100+ people pushing you to keep going. For those of you that have done the Open in the past, there have been a couple changes you need to know about:
- There is a scaled division so you do not have to do the same workouts that Camille and Rich Fronning are doing.
- Instead of 60 athletes and 30 teams going to regionals, there will be 20 individuals and 15 teams. We still want to qualify two teams.
- Regionals will be in Del Mar again and we will have another party bus.
- There will be an in-house, intramural competition with coed teams of four. We are really excited about this and cannot wait to see how the internal gym competition shakes out. We will be releasing details of the competition over the next couple days.
So how do you sign up?
- Go to http://games.crossfit.com/ and click “Register Here.”
- If you have an account from previous years, enter your credentials. If not, create an account.
- When it asks for your affiliate, type “Pacific Beach CrossFit PB”
- Your team is “San Diego Athletics 2”
- Pay the fee. Yes, it is $20 to find out that there are thousands of people better than you at fitness. But, it also costs $20 bucks to find out there are over 100,000 people that you dominate in fitness. And, paying the fee will allow you to compete in the in house competition.
