Intensity is bringing all of your focus to a task to maximize the return on your effort.

Why do you feel like you are in better shape at the end of the CrossFit Open than any other time of the year?

The CF Open, and any other competition, is a great time to test intensity. Square off against your training partner, turn the clock on, and let the battle begin.

Competition creates an intensity that is barely repeatable in any other setting.

But why are you able to get there during competition and not during training?

In training, we often view intensity as how tired or sore we are at the end of a workout. We often forget about the mental intensity that is displayed in competition settings. Our focus on perfect movement, perfect breathing patterns, and the perfect pacing to keep us below the redline.

Bringing that focus to your daily training, focusing on perfect movement, pacing, and breathing will improve every aspect of your game. Next time, instead of getting blasted by your workout, try to bring the intensity to your mental game.

Move better, control your breath, control your heart rate, and control your pace.

Intensity is not just about getting whacked by a workout. Intensity is bringing all of your focus to a task to maximize the return on your effort.
