Intensity

Linear Progression isn't just for weights. Bring a little more aggression to the barbell every day and see your strength number go through the roof.

Linear progression is real. The term, simplified, means to steadily progress in a skill, starting at a low level, and slightly increasing difficulty over a period of time. If done correctly, linear progression allows the body to slowly adapt to the increased stimulus and develop at a rate that keeps you safe and trending upwards.

Most commonly, this term is used in strength training. Start off with a back squat at 135 pounds, add 5 pounds every training session and you are on your way to getting pretty strong.

Well, this is if all of the other components of your lifting game are progressing at the same rate.

Aggression, for most, is the largest limiting factor between strong and really effing strong. Instead of focusing on adding five pounds every week, focus on bringing a little more “pissed off” to the barbell every day. Find out if you are a human or if you are an animal. Dig a little deeper, find the primal animal inside you and growl a little. Approach the barbell like you are in the middle of a territorial battle.

Last week, on Safari, I watched a lion and a buffalo in a battle of survival. When was the last time you were in a fight where there were only two outcomes, death or starving? We are animals, we came from the wild, this stuff is inside us. Find it and you will find strength.

Instead of worrying about the five pounds, focus on bring 1% more aggression to the barbell.
