Posture Alignment For Athletes
Mostly people think that having good posture means sitting up straight, and pulling their shoulders back during a workout. Let me tell you, there is a heck of a lot more to posture than just sitting up straight, and unfortunately I learned that in just about hardest way possible. Here is my story, which I told previously on Breaking Muscle, and don’t think I could find the words to re-tell it any other way.
“When I was 27 years old, I was in a wheelchair for almost a year. I couldn't walk because of an unexpected onset of excruciating pain in my left hip. I never had a fall or an accident. The hip pain just started one day and continued to get worse over time, until eventually the pain levels were a constant eight out of ten.
As my hip pain worsened, and I went from walking to being on crutches to being in a wheelchair, I visited orthopedic surgeons, a neurologist, plastic surgeons, primary care physicians, a nurse practitioner, a psychiatrist, physical therapists, an osteopath, massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, spiritual healers and energy workers. I was scanned, poked and prodded in every way imaginable with MRIs, MRIs with contrast, scopes, CAT scans and X-rays. I took everything I was prescribed including anti-inflammatories, painkillers, anti-nausea medication to counteract the nausea that resulted from the painkillers, and antidepressants.”

On Thursday March 12th I will be delving into just exactly why YOU should be interested in your posture and improving it as much as possible, even if you are not in pain! If you have an interest in improving your performance, or you have reached a plateau with your existing mobility routine, or if you have a chronic pain issue that you have not been able to resolve, you should attend this workshop.
It is important for me to explain that I am not a doctor, and I do not have any formal training in human anatomy, physical therapy, massage therapy or chiropractic. My background consists of 11 years of experience as a personal trainer, a three day certification from Egoscue University called Posture Alignment Specialist 1, and two of the worst years of my life which I spent battling chronic pain and doing whatever it took to ultimately come out on top (even if it meant just listening to my own gut instinct, and acting on it even thought everyone else thought I was crazy)
